5 USEFUL TIPS FOR NEW BLOGGERS (NEWBIES, WHERE YOU AT?)

It’s really an honor to be a part of this growing community. I have been a writer since I was ten years old and being able to connect with different people over the years has been a necessity for me. My job takes a lot of patience and understanding. I deal with a variety of characters and everyday is a learning for me.

Blogging was never an option. I am a procrastinator and I get bored easily. I am not that creative to keep a page alive or to keep people interested.

When I started my blog, my main purpose was to be noticed. I didn’t want to be famous but getting at least 1000 followers was my goal at the time. Pretty bland, right? I know; however, I realised that it was not going to be easy. It’s not as if people will flood your page with likes and follows the minute you start posting. Nah.

I’m going to share some of the things I learned while trying to grow my page. I hope you will find these useful.

1. FIND YOUR NICHE: What is it that you really want to write about, what do you want to share? Is it about Travel? Fashion? Food? Personal Experience? Career? Anything that you enjoy or would give you the outlet to express yourself. Design your theme according to those categories, don’t use too much color. Whenever I check out a page with too much colors and can’t even read the posts, I immediately just find another page to check out.

2. BE STRAIGHTFORWARD/SHORT: It’s not a bad thing to write long stories and posts, especially if you intend to have a page dedicated for literary pieces or series, but I prefer to read short writings. You can write in parts for long series.

3. INTERACT WITH YOUR FELLOW BLOGGERS: At first, I thought liking a post is enough to let someone know of my presence, but over time, I realised that leaving a comment, is totally much better, believe, writers like me wants to know what you think. Try to comment on a post, give some reasons why you liked it, and leave some encouraging words for the writer. I always make sure to check my feed for new posts and make it a point to REALLY read. Followers and Pages you follow would be useless if you don’t give time to really be interactive. Don’t live by the numbers, live by the words.

4: ENCOURAGE: I believe that being a part of WordPress, it is a give and take relationship, if a blogger took their time to visit, like, follow and comment on your posts, at least be grateful and reciprocate. You didn’t start a page just to gain followers, your content should be equally as important. Visit pages of new bloggers, encourage them to continue their page. I noticed that some of them post only one writings and then be idle for more than five months. Inspire them to be more engaging.

5: HAVE FUN: That, to me, is the main purpose of WordPress – to make friends, to gather people who share the same interests, to build friendships and to create a community with talents and brilliant writers. This is a portal to express one’s sentiments, to appease, to console, to comfort. This is a writer’s paradise and we should all have fun. Write. Have fun. Connect.

  4. Hey! Nice post 🙂 I’m a newbie, nice to meet you lol In all honesty this isn’t my first run around the blogosphere, but a couple years back I put all the tools down, took down all my writing, all my blogs, and wen’t back to working for my family business. Personal issues led to depression, depression led to more issues, those issues led to intense writers block. Any-who, I’m back, with a new account, email address, and site. Jeez, I forgot how hard it was at first. I’ll be writing mainly about the creative. Posting some art, some fiction, and alongside it some lifestyle/blogging advice. I haven’t got much to offer right now, but if you do pop over to my blog, please read the eulogy I wrote to my grandfather. His death, was the first thing that encouraged me to write in 2 years, and I feel an overwhelming need to share it.

      1. Oh wow, thank you! That’d be great 🙂 There used to be a lot more to do in the way of engaging with the community. I don’t know if its because I’m using the wordpress app on my IPad rather than in-browser, but I can’t seem to find any of the wordpress.com community stuff? You know like the community pool, weekly challenge and daily post? Do you have any recommendations for communities to check out and get involved in?

      2. They removed the community pool, I think 2-3 months ago, it was sudden and surprising but there are other bloggers who hosts pool parties. I am also thinking of hosting a party, I just gotta think of my own name. Haha. 🙂

I started my blog as private as possible before (2011) because I just wanted to practice my writing skills and I’m afraid to tell my friends/fam.. but now I’m trying to be more active and engage to other bloggers here on this platform. So grateful to followed you here. Your words are very motivating 💜 thank you so much!!

      1. Well, I’ve tried many things to try to promote my blog, but it’s been a bit difficult. I’m not great at self-promotion and it’s been hard to fully engage the readers I do have. Oh well. Some things simply take more time for some folks. When at first you don’t succeed, try and try again! 🙂

  6. Thank you so much for the tips. This is really helpful since I just started my blog on July. At first I wrote poems only to let out my feelings that I never have the courage to say out loud. But now, I’ve finally realized interacting with fellow writers and sharing thoughts about each other’s pieces can improve my writing skills too.

  9. Hey Ragazza. Hope you are doing good. Just came across this post and felt really grateful of you for having reposted it. Being a newbie, I am sure your tips are going to help me alot. I was not really interactive with fellow bloggers till yet. Being so new to the WordPress community gave me shivers, as I am not a writer. But after reading your suggestions I still think that I can continue here with the help of so many bloggers around . 😊♥️
